ROS Legacy Wiki

ROS Legacy Game Modes

Every ROS Legacy match drops 100 players onto one shrinking battleground, and the last player or team alive wins. ROS Legacy has three classic queues, Solo, Duo and Squad, and the match picker in the client adds a five-player team size, the Ranked Game ladder, the Hero Clash, Death Race and Train event cards and the ROStopia builder. A match takes roughly 20 minutes. Squads also work with three named roles, Vanguard, Scout and Anchor, so each teammate knows their job after landing.

Classic queues: Solo, Duo and Squad

Solo, Duo and Squad are the three queues on the official ROS Legacy site. You choose one with the team-size buttons under the map cards, and Squad covers teams of up to four, the same 01–04 squad range printed on the Windows launch page.

A queue flow from the ROS Legacy match picker to a queue choice and a squad role.
The picker decides the queue; the squad then has to turn that choice into a role and a rotation.

Solo

One drop, one survivor. Pure skill, zero backup.

Every fight is yours alone, so your landing spot and when you rotate toward the circle decide the match. Select the single-player button before pressing Confirm.

Team size 1

Duo

Pair up and cover each other through every fight.

From two players up, the Squad Tactics tools start to matter: a partner can revive you after a knockdown and ping threats you have not seen.

Team size 2

Squad

Teams built for full tactical control.

Squads hold up to four players, which is where the Vanguard, Scout and Anchor split and shared loadouts pay off most.

Reading the match picker

The match picker has four tabs: Gameplay, Expansion Pack, Custom Room and ROStopia. The Gameplay tab holds the maps, the ranked card and the event cards, with the team-size row along the bottom.

Ranked Seasons

Ranked Seasons are the competitive side of ROS Legacy: a ladder that runs one season at a time, pays out seasonal rewards and cosmetics, and resets its leaderboard when the next season starts. In the client it is the Ranked Game card, which showed Season 17 in Progress on the Open Beta build.

The ranking system arrived during the Windows launch period; creator Falcon2FAST covered it on 12 August 2026 together with throwables and the Platoon menu. Mirae Labs has not published rank tiers, point rules or season dates, so climbing guides written for the original game may not match.

Event cards and ROStopia

Next to the classic queues, the picker carries event cards and a separate ROStopia tab for player-built spaces. The card subtitles below are the only rules published for these modes so far.

Squad roles: Vanguard, Scout and Anchor

The Windows launch page described a squad doctrine with three jobs, so a team knows who opens fights, who reads the map and who holds position. In a duo, one player usually covers two of them.

Vanguard

Break the line

Lead the breach, force the fight and create the opening your squad needs.

With the squad Pushes through the gap the Scout has spotted while the Anchor covers the approach.

Scout

Own the intel

Read rotations, mark threats and keep your team one step ahead of the circle.

With the squad Pings targets for the Vanguard and safe ground for the Anchor before the zone closes.

Anchor

Hold the ground

Lock down cover, protect the revive and turn a bad position into a winning one.

With the squad Keeps knocked teammates alive and holds the position the Vanguard and Scout fall back to.

The match loop

Drop
Loot
Rotate
Engage
Survive
Repeat

The launch page summed up every round as this six-step loop on one shrinking battlefield, ending when one player or team is last alive.

Squad Tactics tools

Pings Mark enemies, loot and destinations so the whole team sees them.
Revives Pick a knocked teammate back up instead of losing them for the match.
Shared loadouts Pass weapons and gear between squad members.

Modes in the original Rules of Survival

NetEase's Rules of Survival offered Solo, Duo, Squad and a five-player Fireteam queue from its 2017 beta until it closed on 27 June 2022. The five-player button on the ROS Legacy picker matches that Fireteam size, even though the ROS Legacy site itself names only Solo, Duo and Squad.

Modes FAQ

How many players are in a ROS Legacy match?

Each match drops 100 players onto one battleground, and the play area keeps shrinking until a single player or team is left standing. Expect a round to last about 20 minutes, so one game fits into a short break.

Can I play ROS Legacy in a group of five?

Yes. The match picker has a five-player button next to the 1, 2 and 4 options, so a full group of five can queue together. The official site and the launch page only describe squads of up to four, so the five-player size is found on the picker alone.

Is there a ranked mode in ROS Legacy?

Yes. Ranked Game is its own card on the match picker and was running Season 17 in the Open Beta client. Each season has its own rewards and cosmetics, and the leaderboard is wiped when a new season begins.

What is ROStopia?

ROStopia is the build-and-share tab of the match picker, separate from the battle royale queues. Edit Mode lets you create a ROStopia, save it and share it with friends, and Play Mode opens one a friend has shared. The tab also shows a weekly Casual Points counter that tops out at 1,000.
